About Fleni

Fleni is a non-profit organisation created in 1959 with the initial objective of contributing to the prevention and fight against childhood neurological diseases.

Today, more than 60 years after its creation, Fleni has evolved towards a comprehensive provision of neurological pathologies that includes prevention, diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation, and a medical institution of international prestige that cares for children and adults in everything related to Neuroscience.

It has two locations for the comprehensive care of adult and pediatric patients: a 120-bed acute patient centre, and the 70-bed Rehabilitation Center with the Molecular Imaging Center (CIM) with PET-CT and Cyclotron, and Applied Neuroscience Research Laboratories (LIAN).

Fleni performs an average of 1,400 neurosurgeries and 400 neuro-orthopaedic procedures yearly, with more than 3 million patients receiving attention in the last 10 years.

Why Choose MEG?

The Challenge :

As an institution, we specialise in the care of patients with neurological (and some cardiology) pathologies, which meant we had very few benchmark references when it came to comparing our standards of care against similar centres across the country.

It became imperative to create and measure care and quality indicators that were tailored for this specific patient population.

Data collection was initially built out in an Excel template but the arduous nature of the data entry was a considerable burden to staff and resulted in long delays in reporting and analysis.

Why opt for a technological solution? What was on your wish list when evaluating options?

We needed to gather a broad range of important care quality metrics on a daily basis across our organisation. We wanted to have data results available to us in real-time, identify deviations earlier, speed up and improve decision-making and make faster interventions.

During our search for a better solution we discovered MEG. MEG’s healthcare quality management software solved these problems for all involved and allowed us to quickly hone in on high-risk issues and deliver and demonstrate tangible improvements.

How was the implementation phase?

Implementation was very easy. The team at MEG worked closely with us, helping to tweak inputs and workflows, so we were quickly generating reliable data and reports with which we felt confident making decisions.

Why did you choose MEG?

We found MEG to be a very reliable tool. It’s quick and easy to capture data relating to care quality metrics and is built to the exact needs of the Nursing department. We’ve had continuous technical support and built automated workflows that trigger notification alerts when/if thresholds for our quality indicators are breached. MEG’s comprehensive graphical and visual display options make interpreting data results effortless.
— Lic. Galluzzi Hugo, Deputy Head of Nursing, FLENI

The MEG team looks forward to working with Fleni and supporting the organisation, and its specialist care centres, in its vision for consistently high levels of quality care and patient safety.
